When a A4 document is printed the MFP will try and print it on A4 sized paper. Since we are in Canada we don't see a whole lot of A4 paper so we can have the MFP automatically switch from A4 to Letter paper.

On a Sharp machine

System Settings
Admin Login. (default password is admin)
Printer Settings
Default settings
Then check the box that says "A4/Letter Size Auto Change.
Submit the changes.
Press CA to go back to normal operating.

On a Konica Minolta.

[User Settings]
[Printer Settings]
[Basic Settings]
[A4/A3 LTR/LGR Auto Switch]

If papers you have set by [User Settings] - [Printer Settings] - [Paper Setting] - [Paper Size] are not loaded into the paper tray, you can specify whether or not to print on paper of a similar size.

In normal circumstances, select [OFF]. When you select [ON], size conversion between A4 and Letter and between A3 and Ledger automatically occurs and images may be partially lost.

[OFF] is specified by default.

Problems Customer Fix

The Error code indicates a problem with the Fuser of the machine.  It also appears when there is a power surge or a power outage.  For most machine you can reset it by one of two ways.
  1. 1.  From the copy mode on the machine select # then * then C then * .  If this is done correctly the display will change to indicate to input a number.  You can enter 14 and press the big button as if you were making copies.  Either the machine will restart or indicate that you need to press the Execute button and confirm that you want to continue.  Once you have done that the machine will restart.  If it doesn't restart press the CA and it will restart.
  2. 2.  If no # key is present you can us C then Exposure (the button that changes from automatic exposure to manual) then C then Exposure.  The display will change.  Enter 14 and the big button that you use to make copiers.  The machine will restart or once it is finished press the C button again until you have exited the reset mode.
This will reset the H4 error code.  If at this point you can make a copy then you are ready to continue.  If the error returns you will have to contact us as the machine requires service.  If you have difficulty with these instructions feel free to contact us.

Troubleshooting Information

There are a number of things you can do to prolong the life of your copier. Here are some helpful tips to keep your copier in good health.

  • Keep the glass scanner area clean. Using a soft lint free cloth, wipe down the glass with a static free cleaner. Ensure any paper you are putting in the machine is clean (free from excessive dirt or wet ink corrector fluid).
  • Replace the toner when needed. The machine will notify you when the toner is low; this is the time to order more.
  • Take care to load paper properly to prevent jamming.
  • Turn off your copier when not in use. Turning off the machine or putting it in hibernation mode will save power and prolong the machine’s life.
  • Service the copier when maintenance/error messages occur.
  • Don’t treat your copier as a shelf. Stacking items on top of the machine can lead to a number of issues. It’s best to treat your machine with care.

Black Lines on Copies There are a few possibilities when it comes to what is causing those black lines on your copies. The first step is to check the original document. Folds and pasted-on sections can cause faint lines. Adjusting the contrast and brightness can help to improve the appearance of these areas. Thin lines at the end of the page can be a result of the original being smaller than the copy. By setting the copier to enlarge the image, the edges of the original will not appear on the copy. Lines only when copying? One of the most common causes of lines is a result of debris on the glass. Using your favourite glass cleaner, wipe down the ‘large glass’ scanning surface.   Lines only when you are using the feeder? Another area to clean is the ‘small glass’, which is the thin strip of glass beside the ‘large glass’. Preventative maintenance – when copying, always ensure the original document is completely dry and clean. Lines when copying and printing? Try cleaning the drum chargers. Most modern copiers have devices for cleaning the chargers. Please refer to you machines operating manual If lines are still occurring on your copies, there could be an internal issue. Make a note of the details (when do the line occur? Which direction do they run? What colour/lack of colour?) and set up a service call.
